A free start for every registered charity, school and church in Jamaica. Not a draw. Not one winner a month.

You see it before anyone else does. The woman who stops coming to the office because the form is only online now. The man who will not answer an unknown number since the day somebody took J$40,000 from him. The mother who cannot help her child with homework that arrives by email. None of them say it out loud. They simply stop turning up.

A monthly giveaway would have made a nice headline and helped almost nobody. So we are not running one. If your organization is registered and serves people in Jamaica, your members get the first two modules of both Beginner courses free, with no cap on how many people you put through it. Anyone who wants to go further registers once for J$3,500.

We are not being generous. Getting people started costs us almost nothing, and we would rather have five thousand Jamaicans able to send an email than a press photograph of one cheque.

An adult volunteer helping secondary-school students at laptops

You already have the trust, the room and the people. The only thing missing is the teaching, and that is the part we hand you, free, for as many members as you have.

Paid levels are separate. Partners get them at a group rate, and any member who wants to go further pays the ordinary price. Nothing is hidden behind the free offer.

What a partner actually receives

A free start for every member

Modules 1 and 2 of both Beginner courses, the first steps with a phone and a computer and the first lessons on AI and passwords, plus finding your way around a website on a phone and clearing old pages from the browser. Free for every member you enrol, with no cap on numbers. Each member’s code opens 10 days of access. To carry on, a member registers once for J$3,500.

Certificates for members who complete a course

A member who registers and completes a whole course earns the same certificate as any learner, with the same verification code an employer can check. Nothing marked as charity. A code on its own does not earn a certificate.

A trained person inside your organization

We take one of your staff or volunteers through a short trainer course, free, so somebody on site can answer questions without waiting on us.

Printed material

Handouts, a poster and a one-page guide per lesson, ready to print, for members who would rather hold paper than read a screen.

A progress view

A simple page showing who enrolled, who is part way through and who finished, so you can follow up with the people who stalled. This one arrives with learner accounts, in the next stage of the build.

Paid levels at a group rate

When members are ready for Intermediate or Advanced, partners get a discounted rate and can buy codes in batches.

Why we can afford to do this

Because it is honest to say so: the Beginner lessons already exist, and one more learner costs us a few cents in hosting. The expensive part of training is a person standing in a room, and we removed that. Partners cost us almost nothing and reach the people we built this for. Some of their members will later pay for Intermediate. Most will not, and that is fine.

What we ask in return

  • That you are real. A registered charity, school, church, credit union or community organization, with a name we can check.
  • One named contact. Somebody who hands out the codes and tells us what is working and what is not. Each code works once, and its 10 days start the moment it is used, so hand codes out close to when members will begin.
  • That the codes stay with your members. They are not for resale or for passing to the general public. Every use of a code is recorded, a used code will not work a second time, and a code that has been shared or sold may be cancelled.
  • Honest feedback. Tell us where your members got stuck. That is how the lessons improve, and it is worth more to us than money.

How to start

  1. Apply. Your organization's name, what it does, roughly how many members would take part, and one contact person.
  2. We check the organization. A registration number, or the school, church or parish name. It takes a day or two.
  3. We set up your partner account and send your first batch of codes, along with the printed material.
  4. Your trainer takes the short course, so there is somebody on site who knows the lessons.
  5. Your members learn at their own pace, and you watch the progress page fill up.

Who this is for

Three church members on a pew, one helping an older man with his phone

Churches

Congregations with older members who have stopped answering their phones since a scam call.

Three students at a classroom table working on a laptop, a notebook and a tablet

Schools and colleges

Students who will need these skills for work, and the ancillary staff nobody ever trains.

Members of a community group at a round table with phones and a tablet

Charities and community groups

Credit unions, farming groups, youth clubs, parish organizations, homes for the elderly.

Partner places are free while you remain a partner. Codes are not for resale and cannot be exchanged for cash. Partners are named publicly only with their permission, in line with our privacy notice.

— For companies

Your retired computers can build Jamaica's next workforce

When your company upgrades, the computers you retire still have years of good work in them. FirstClick puts them where they matter most: in Jamaican schools, in front of students and teachers who need them to become computer literate for the jobs of tomorrow. Every school that receives computers also gets free FirstClick places for its teachers and staff, so the equipment arrives with the training to use it well.

We take care of the details, from secure data wiping to delivery, so donating is simple, safe and worth your while.

What we accept

Laptops and desktops with an Intel Core i3, i5, i7 or i9 processor, 9th generation or newer, or AMD Ryzen 3000 series or newer. Machines like these run today's software well and will serve a classroom for years.

What makes them go further

8 GB of memory or more and a solid-state drive, where possible. Please include chargers or power cables, and keyboards and mice for desktops, so each computer is ready to use on arrival.

Your data is protected

Choose what suits you. Our team wipes and resets every computer and confirms in writing that it is done, with a record for your files. Or, if you prefer to do it yourselves and have not done it before, we guide your team through it step by step.

What your company gets

  • A written record of what you donated, and written confirmation that every drive was wiped
  • A reply from our team within seven business days, and collection arranged around your schedule
  • Knowing where your computers went: we tell you which school or group received them
  • Your company thanked by name on our Community page, if you would like that

Schools and students

FirstClick is for adults and for students. Students under 18 join through their school's FirstClick Student Program: the teacher gives the class a code, and students sign up in class with the teacher beside them, once a parent or legal guardian has signed our consent form. The school keeps the signed forms. Students need no email address, and the whole course is free.

Offer computers

It takes two minutes. Our team replies within seven business days to arrange the next steps, and nothing is collected until you agree.

Put your organization forward

It takes two minutes, it costs nothing, and somebody in your group is waiting for exactly this.

— Shape what we teach

Your members know what they need

If your church, school or group keeps running into the same problem, such as filling in online forms, spotting scams or using WhatsApp safely, tell us. Ideas from partners go straight to the top of our list, and we will let you know when the lesson is ready.
