— The small print

Terms and conditions

1. Who we are

FirstClick Digital Skills is a business name of Liguanea Advisory Group Limited, a company registered in Jamaica. Address: Liguanea Advisory Group Limited, 8 Lakehurst Drive, Kingston 8, Jamaica. The company provides the course, and these terms are an agreement between you and the company.

By creating an account, using a course code or paying for a course, you agree to these terms. Please read them with our privacy notice, which explains how we handle your information.

2. Your account

FirstClick is for adults and for students. Adults, 18 or older, create their own accounts. Students under 18 join through their school, with a parent or guardian's consent, as set out in section 14.

One person, one account. Each account needs its own email address and its own mobile number, because sign-in codes and alerts are sent to them, and your identification number is used to check that an account is not created twice. Give your correct name, because it appears on your certificate and cannot be changed by you afterwards. You may be asked for your Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN), national identification number or driver's license number; it is stored scrambled and used only to make sure one person does not hold two accounts.

Keep your PIN, password and codes to yourself. Two-step verification is required on every account. For your safety, you are signed out after 10 minutes without activity. After 5 minutes we ask whether you are still there, and a countdown shows the time left. You are also signed out if you leave your learning area in the same browser tab.

You are responsible for what happens under your account. If you think someone else has used it, tell us straight away. Signing in safely. To protect accounts from guessing, 8 wrong passwords within 15 minutes pauses sign-in for 15 minutes; repeated pauses last 30 minutes, then 60 minutes, and a fourth locks the account until you reset your password with I forgot my password. Our staff cannot see or set your password.

3. Courses and fees

Registration is J$3,500, paid once. It opens your account and includes the Beginner level of both courses: Computer Skills, and AI, Scams and Online Safety.

Intermediate and Advanced levels are priced separately, and the price is shown before you pay. If you are not registered yet, you can pay registration and a level together in one payment; both amounts are shown separately before you pay, and registration is still charged only once. A level shown as "Coming soon" cannot be bought until its lessons are released.

Payments are taken through PayPal, by card or with a PayPal account. PayPal charges in United States dollars, at an approximate conversion shown before you pay; your bank or card provider may add its own charges.

Someone else paying for you. A family member or friend, here or overseas, can pay for you through a private payment link you send them from your account. They pay through PayPal and do not need a FirstClick account. The payment counts as yours, and these terms, including the refund terms, apply to it. Only send your link to someone you trust.

Someone can also pay for you without a link, from our Pay for someone page, if they know both your FirstClick account number and the email address on your account.

Bank transfer, by arrangement only. Where we agree to it, we send our bank details privately to the person paying, through a link that expires. The course opens once the money reaches our account. The payer must include the reference we give and the learner’s full name. We will never send you different bank details by email, text or phone; if anyone does, do not pay.

Gift codes. Anyone can buy registration or a course level as a gift, through PayPal. We email a gift certificate with a code (GIFT-XXXX-XXXX) to the person receiving it, or to the buyer to hand over. A gift code works once, for one person, and lasts 12 months from the date of purchase; after 12 months it expires and cannot be used or refunded. It cannot be exchanged for cash. A copy of the gift certificate is sent to our office. A gift of a course level includes registration (J$3,500) unless the buyer tells us the person is already registered; the level price and the registration are shown separately before payment. If the person turns out to be registered already, the level still opens and the registration part is not refunded separately. A gift for a level alone, without registration, can only be used once the person has registered. A gift cannot be used by someone who already has what it opens; they can pass it on. Keep the code private: anyone who has it can use it. An unused gift code can be refunded to the buyer within 14 days of purchase, and the code is then cancelled; a used gift is not refundable. A course opened with a gift counts as paid, including towards a certificate.

We do not keep your banking details. We never ask for, collect or keep card numbers, bank account numbers, bank logins or PINs. Card payments are handled by PayPal.

Prices may change, but never for a course you have already paid for.

4. Refunds

If a course is withdrawn before you complete it, you receive a refund for that course.

Where you have not started a paid level, tell us within 14 days of payment and we will refund it. Registration is refundable within 14 days if you have not opened a paid level.

Access given free through a course code or a partner is not refundable, because nothing was paid.

No refund if your account is terminated. If your account is terminated for any reason, no refund is given for any fee already paid, including registration and any level (see section 7).

Payment provider fees and exchange rates. Refunds are paid back through the same payment provider used, such as PayPal or your card, and to the person who paid; a payment made by someone else for you is refunded to them, and an unused gift code to its buyer. A bank transfer is refunded by bank transfer to the account it came from. Some providers do not return their processing fees when a payment is refunded, and currency conversion can make the amount you receive back different from what you paid. Where this happens, your refund is the amount the provider actually returns, and we follow the provider's own refund rules. Your bank or card provider may also charge its own fees. These amounts are set by the providers, not by us.

We decide refund requests within two working days and, where a refund is approved, send it back through your payment provider by the next working day. How long it then takes to reach you is set by that provider.

You are asked to confirm that you have read these refund terms before you pay.

5. Using the course

Lessons are for your own learning. Do not share your account, sit a course for someone else, or copy the material for sale or for teaching elsewhere without our written permission.

Printed handouts on our site may be printed and handed out free of charge, for example at a church, school or community session. They may not be sold or changed.

To keep the service safe, visits pass through Cloudflare, and some forms use an automated security check. If a check does not pass, try again, or contact us and we will help.

Respectful use. Whatever you send us or put on your account, including your name, username, messages and lesson ideas, must not contain abusive, hateful or sexual language, threats, scam links, requests for anyone’s codes, passwords or card details, spam, or anything that pretends to come from FirstClick or its staff. These are checked automatically, and a member of our team reviews anything marked. A name that does not pass the check is confirmed with you before a certificate is issued.

6. Certificates

A certificate is issued only when you complete a whole track: the Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels of the same course, including every lesson quiz. No certificate is issued for a single level on its own. Registration and all three levels of the course must be paid for; free access from a course code does not earn a certificate, although lessons passed during it count once you have paid.

A certificate is issued in your name and is not transferable. Anyone you show it to can check it on our Check a certificate page, using the certificate number printed on it. You can switch checking off and on from your account. A certificate obtained through someone else sitting the course, or any other dishonesty, may be canceled.

7. If the rules are broken

If the respectful-use rules in section 5 are broken, we first send a written warning. A second breach within 12 months pauses the account for 7 days, after which it opens again by itself. A further breach may close the account. Threats, fraud or scams may lead to a pause straight away. Warnings count for 12 months. Where we have good reason to believe these terms have been broken in any other way, we may suspend the account while we look into it. You will be told the concern and given a chance to reply. Where a breach is established, the account may be closed and certificates canceled. Where a breach is established, fees already paid are not refunded.

Our right to terminate. We may terminate your account where the facts show it is right to do so under these terms. We decide on those facts, keep a record of them, and tell you the reason. If your account is terminated for any reason, no refund is given for any fee already paid.

8. What we promise, and what we do not

We work to keep the site available and the lessons accurate and current. Phone and computer menus change between models and software versions, so a screen may occasionally look different from the lesson; tell us and we will update it.

Our service commitments set out what we promise on availability, maintenance, replies and refunds. Where we plan maintenance, we will tell you beforehand, do it in the quietest hours, keep it as short as we can, and not close the site for a whole day or a weekend. We cannot promise the service will never be interrupted, and completing a course does not guarantee employment. Lessons give general guidance and are not legal, financial or medical advice.

Reviewed answers (not offered yet). We may later offer a service where adult learners ask a question about money, health or the law. If we do, a qualified person on our team, such as a nurse, attorney or financial professional, checks and approves every answer before you see it, and each answer shows who reviewed it and their qualification. The reviewer may use our AI service provider to write a first draft; when they do, the answer says so. Answers are general guidance for Jamaica, not advice on your own situation, and do not replace your own doctor, attorney or bank. In an emergency, call 110 for an ambulance or 119 for the police. The service is not available on student accounts. It is switched off today, and we will update these terms and our privacy notice before it opens.

9. Examples used in the lessons

People, businesses, messages and situations used as examples in the lessons, on this website and in printed material are invented for teaching purposes. Any resemblance to a real person or business is coincidental and unintended. Screenshots and sample messages are recreations and are not copies of any real message sent by any company.

10. Course codes

Course codes are issued to community partners, employers and groups for their own members, and by us as invitations. Each code works once, for one person, and opens access for the period stated when it is issued. A free partner code opens Modules 1 and 2 of both Beginner courses, and the lessons on using websites on a phone and clearing the browser cache, for 10 days, counted from the date and time it is used. To open more, you register. When that period ends, the lessons it opened close unless you register or buy a course.

Codes are free to the person who receives them and must not be sold, traded or posted publicly. Every use of a code, and every attempt to use one, is recorded with the date, time and the connection and device used. A code that has already been used will not work again. Where a used code is entered again by someone else, we may pause the access that code opened while we look into it, as set out in section 7. Unused codes may be canceled at any time. A course code is a free trial. It gives free access for the days shown on the code. The one-time registration of J$3,500 is still payable, and must be paid before any further course level can be bought.

11. Ideas and messages you send us

When you suggest a lesson or send us a message, you agree that we may use your idea to build or improve our lessons, without payment to you. We will not publish your name or contact details with it without your permission.

If you ask us to tell you when a lesson is ready, we will use your email address for that, and for nothing else. You can ask us to stop at any time.

12. Files you send us

We may send you a private link to send us files, such as a signed partner agreement. Files sent this way are used only for the purpose we asked for, are kept only as long as needed, and are opened only by our staff. Please do not send passwords, PINs or full card numbers.

13. Offering computers for schools

Who can offer. Companies and organizations can offer computers they no longer need, using the form on our Community page. We may accept or decline any offer, in whole or in part.

What we accept. Laptops and desktops with an Intel Core i3, i5, i7 or i9 processor, 9th generation or newer, or AMD Ryzen 3000 series or newer, in working order, ideally with 8 GB of memory or more, a solid-state drive, and their chargers or power cables.

When we reply. Our team contacts you within seven business days of your offer to arrange the next steps. Nothing is collected until you agree.

Your data. You choose how the drives are wiped. If you ask our team to do it, we securely erase every drive and reset each computer before it leaves our care, and confirm in writing, listing each computer. If you prefer to wipe them yourselves, we guide your team through it, and you remain responsible for removing your data before collection.

What happens to the computers. Once collected, the computers become ours to place in Jamaican schools and community groups, free of charge to them. We tell you which school or group received them. A computer that cannot be used is recycled responsibly, and we tell you.

Records and thanks. We give you a written record of what you donated. We name your company publicly only with your permission. We are not a registered charity, so please ask your accountant about any tax treatment of the donation.

Your details. We keep the details on your offer for two years after it was last updated, then delete them. See the privacy notice and our security page.

14. Students under 18

Who creates which account. Anyone creating an account on our sign-up page confirms they are 18 or older. Accounts for students under 18 are opened only through the FirstClick Student Program described here.

The FirstClick Student Program. Students under 18 may use FirstClick only through a school that has joined the FirstClick Student Program, and only after a parent or legal guardian has signed the FirstClick Parent or Guardian Consent Form. The school keeps the signed form. There are two ways a student account is opened: (a) the school confirms the signed form to us and we open the account; or (b) the school's lead teacher confirms to us once, for the whole school, that a parent or guardian signs the form for every student before that student signs up, and students then sign up in class with a class code from their teacher, with the teacher present. The school is responsible for collecting the signed forms before its students sign up, and must show them to us if we ask. Lessons take place under the school's supervision, and at home only if the parent or guardian has agreed on the form.

What is different for students. Student accounts are set up by us or by the school. Students who sign up with a class code give no email address: they sign in with the class code, a username and a 6-digit PIN. We collect only what our privacy notice lists for students. Students do not receive newsletters or marketing, cannot use the AI helpers, and do not pay; there is no payment page on a student account.

Withdrawing consent. A parent or guardian can withdraw consent at any time, through the school or by emailing [email protected]. We then close the student's account and delete their information, except anything the law requires us to keep. The school's teachers can add students, reset, pause or terminate a student's account from their teacher page; a terminated account stops signing in, and its records are kept for one year before the personal details are deleted. When a student leaves the school or finishes the program, their account stops signing in, and their information is deleted one year later. The program is not open yet; this section applies from the day it opens. See also our privacy notice.
